Elon Musk says the rise of AI will make jobs 'optional'
- Musk believes that with the progress of Artificial Intelligence fulfilling jobs will become obsolete bringing the option of a “universal high income.”
- Musk raises an increasing concern over the safety of AI and states the opportunity of Neuralink in augmentation of cognitive abilities of humans.
The current CEO of Tesla Motors and founder of Neuralink Company, Elon Musk says that the future may come when people will not even need to work as artificial intelligence will keep progressing.
While introducing VivaTech 2024, Musk said that the application of artificial intelligence means that it can perform all jobs thus providing for a ‘universal high income’ with jobs replacing current plentiful goods and services. He pointed out that the major test will be for people to find purpose in life since most activities will be handled by AI.
Ensuring AI Safety
Musk again stressed his AI fears, proposing to have a moratorium on the design of new sophisticated AI systems. Nevertheless, he has started his own AI lab, xAI, and the Grok chatbot. Musk actively engages in the creation of AI while at the same time stressing the risks involved.
Education and AI
Musk focused on the aspect of education and stated that AI could become great teachers because they are patient and knowledgeable. But he also warned that parents should remain interventionist on the morals and values their children uphold and the amount of time spent on social networks.
Neuralink's Vision
Neuralink which was recently founded by Musk as a brain-computer interface is now also planning to address conditions arising from injuries in the brain and spinal cord. In the long run, Musk would like these interfaces to act as a way of pushing human accomplishment to the level required to deal with AI, as well as a means for interacting faster with electronic devices.
